Has Mrs. Obama gone too far?

4 Feb

Michelle Obama is launching a nation-wide anti-obesity campaign for children.

Several people have criticized her for making the comment, that she too has dealt with this issue since their pediatrician told them that Malia and Sasha were heading towards being overweight.  Critics are saying that she is placing her children under the unnecessary microscope that can lead them to possibly having an eating disorder in the future. We all know that former President’s daughters were not excused from ridicule.
I believe that if anyone can balance it out, it is Michelle Obama. By using her own daughters, she will be able to speak from first-hand experience.
Obesity in America is at an all time high. A third of America’s children are obese. Working mom’s are apt to give their children fast-food due to a busy schedule. Unfortunately there aren’t that many healthy options in fast food. Children are also not as active as they use to be due to video games and computers. As a busy working mom, Mrs. Obama is an excellent candidate for shedding light on this issue.

“Precious” wants Justin Timberlake as her date to the Oscars

4 Feb

Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe told Canadian TV show that she would like to have Justin Timberlake be her date to the Oscars.  She is a N’Sync fan, which is understandable since she is 26.
At one point during the interview, Sidibe turns toward the camera and makes her direct appeal. “Justin,” she says, “if you’re not doing anything on that night, maybe you could be my date or something. It’s fine. No pressure!”
WOW! She wants him bad. She better be careful. He does have a girlfriend. She needs to start thinking about alternates just in case.

Corrine Bailey Rae “The Sea”

3 Feb

Corrine Bailey Rae does it again with her much-anticipated new CD “The Sea”.  Very similar to the sea her CD goes deep and calm with songs like “Are You Here” and “Closer” referring to her husband, that died from a drug overdose in 2008, to rough and funky with soon to be hits  “The Blackest Lily” and “Feels like the First Time”.  This CD also provides us with the lightheartedness songs like “Paris Nights/New York Mornings” and “Paper Dolls”.  This CD is a must have!  I give 5 stars, 4 mics, and 2 thumbs up!  I was able to listen to it from beginning to end and all over again.

“Leading Women” on Centric

“Leading Women” on Centric

Last night, as I am flipping channels I come across a series called “Leading Women” on Centric. Centric is an affiliate of the BET network.

The show was excellent. Each half hour segment focuses on an African-American woman who have made many contributions to her community, craft and family.  I watched two back to back episodes, with Sanaa Lathan and Monique.

Let me say I was blown away by each of their stories.

Sanaa Lathan’s foundation HerGroup, hosts a Cinderella ball which transitions girls from the foster care system into society.  I learned that there were some eye-opening statistics when girls leave the foster care system at 18.  Majority of them are homeless or incarcerated after they leave the foster care system.  Sanaa’s foundation takes these girls and develops self-esteem and skills that will be needed when they transition out of the foster care.

Monique’s segment displayed her tenacity and strength.  Monique was a mom, wife and worked in Corporate America before she decided to become a comedienne/actress.  She said her big break came when she went into her boss’s office at MCI and resigned. She said you must create your big breaks and not wait for them to come to you.  Her confidence gives a clear indication of how success equals being prepared when the opportunity hits.

This show really goes deep and you learn from their perspective what moves them and why. I learned from each how being true to yourself professionally and personally will help you fulfill you life’s purpose.

Tameka Foster is working on a reality show

16 Aug

tamekaphoto1Tameka Foster better known as Man-Meka is supposedly in the works for a reality show. Her life after Usher. Let’s hope it makes it through. I want to know what her side of the story is. What would have really been the bomb, if she would have made The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Hopefully, Tameka will give us tips on how to keep it sexy at 40. Because ladies, this is the cougars of all cougars. She got Usher! That’s like Oprah pulling Chris Brown. Ok that’s a stretch but you know what I mean.

Let’s hope this show definitely goes through…

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda

16 Aug

tiny-and-tiHow cruel is it that someone from T.I.’s camp would release a song about his child support case with his other kids. Supposedly T.I.’s whole focus right now is to be about doing the right thing. Has he given any thought about what this diss record would do to his children, his son’s mother, and his current wifee.

Everyone’s life could be a woulda, shoulda, coulda, but we move forward and don’t look back. For whatever reason you all didn’t work out and broke up. Since there are kids involved it should make both parties look past what has been said or done and focus on making sure the kids are okay. Yes, she already knows she missed out on the “jackpot”, by you making it big after her. She probably thinks about it everyday as she struggles to raise your sons to be mature responsible adults. For your current wifee, Tiny, is that fair for her that you still harbor some resentment towards your son’s mother. Hopefully she is secure enough to not let this bother her.

Bottom line, no matter how you feel about your ex-wife, ex-husband, baby’s mama or baby’s daddy, your kids should not be put in the middle of it. This diss record is going to hurt his children more than anything… TI has a lot to do to show me that he has change. The reality shows, the community service, and being the family man all goes down the drain with this diss record.
